e/pop Enterprise Server 3.0

SUMMARY
This quickstart guide covers an overview of the basics of installing an e/pop server on your network. There are several questions you need to decide before installing an e/pop server.

e/pop Server (service or application)
e/pop server can operate as either 1) an application on NT/2000/XP, Windows 9x or ME or 2) a service process on NT/2000/XP. You should decide up front which method you want to use. Service processes have the advantage of operating on NT/2000/XP servers before logon.

e/pop Server (TCP/IP address)
Each e/pop client will need to know the address of the e/pop server in order to connect and communicate. Therefore you need to either 1) define a static IP address for the e/pop server or 2) associate a DNS/WINs entry for name resolution for the e/pop server. All e/pop products can resolve names to IP addresses.

Installing
To install the e/pop server.

1. Download the e/pop server setup from the WiredRed website.
2. Install the program.

NOTE: If you intend to operate e/pop server as a service, you will need to allow the setup program to install/start the service at the end of the setup installation. If you instead, want e/pop server to operate as an application server, uncheck these boxes at the end of the setup installation and place the icon for the e/pop server into the startup group.

e/pop Server Viewer Application
The e/pop server logs all activity to a file called CONSOLE.LOG in the e/pop server's directory. To see this activity on the screen, launch the e/pop server viewer application.

NOTE: You should place the viewer into the Startup Group of your e/pop server to monitor activity and log e/pop user activity.

e/pop Server Management Console
The e/pop server installs and includes an additional application called the e/pop server management console. The console allows you to manage the e/pop server from the office, home or over the Internet.
