WiredRed’s e/pop Provides Instant Company-wide IT Alerts

More organizations adopting secure EIM for instant communication about viruses, server outages and application availability

San Diego, California – April 7, 2003 – WiredRed™, a provider of secure instant messaging (IM) and enterprise real-time communications software, today announced that the Shubert Organization, St. Rita’s Medical Center, Benelli Tecnomeccanica and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, a component of the National Institutes of Health (part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services) have deployed e/pop® to better manage internal IT operations. e/pop enables the IT staff at these organizations to immediately notify groups of employees, or the entire staff about system, network and server outages, virus alerts and application upgrades and accessibility.

Shubert Ticketing Services provides the ticketing infrastructure, consisting of phone, Internet and box offices sales, for its own Broadway theatres as well as for 70 client-owned theatres in New York, Boston, Philadelphia and Washington DC. Shubert utilizes e/pop to notify all box office staff about software upgrades, as well as the current status of the system and network.

“We spent two years developing a new ticketing system and knew that once it went online there would be initial bugs and problems that could result in server outages,” explained IT Director Larry Yedwab. “Initially we tried to use email to broadcast messages but found that email was too easy to ignore and didn’t convey the sense of urgency we needed. We knew that using the phone wasn’t an effective use of our time. It wasn’t hard to determine that IM would work best in our environment.”

St. Rita’s Medical Center, part of the Catholic Healthcare Partners Network, also deployed e/pop for IT personnel to communicate about system and network issues.

“We sought a secure EIM solution that would meet HIPAA requirements and found that e/pop enabled us to stay HIPAA compliant and is highly flexible,” explained John Bickel, senior network analyst at St. Rita’s. “We were able to configure e/pop so that we can send text messages through our SMTP gateway to our PCS phones and pagers. That way we can stay in touch constantly and communicate about system issues no matter where we are.”

Italy’s Benelli Tecnomeccanica S.p.A., which provides design and manufacturing services to automotive and motorcycle companies such as Aprilia, Benelli Moto, Ducati, Piaggio, Moto Guzzi and Technogym, a fitness equipment company, deployed e/pop for fast inter-office communication and found that it is extremely useful as a means to inform all employees about the status of the network and applications.

“Sending instant IT alerts using e/pop makes my job so much easier,” Andrea Nardi-Dei, Benelli’s CIO explains. “I’ve created specialized messages that allow me to blast out an alert requesting that employees close the MRP application so I can upgrade it, to notify staff that new applications are available, or that I’ll be shutting down the server for maintenance.”
