for LAN to WAN-based Real Time Communications
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - June 5, 2001 - WiredRed® Software Corporation, the premier provider of real-time communications software for the enterprise, today announced the availability of e/pop 3.0. More than just Instant Messaging (IM), e/pop is a comprehensive suite of real-time communications applications that offers centralized administration, enterprise-level security, application sharing and directory integration. Businesses in a variety of industries, including medicine, law, accounting, transportation technology, and government are using WiredRed's e/pop to enhance business communications productivity by enabling rapid response capabilities and real-time collaboration.
"In today's 24/7, non-stop business environment, organizations that are able to adapt and address challenges faster than the competition win the game - every time," said Allen Drennan, president and CEO at WiredRed Software. "e/pop enables businesses to maximize the time and effectiveness of their communications - enhancing relationships between employees, customers, partners and vendors. From the boardroom to the IT department, from the help desk to the sales department, e/pop enables faster response times to business critical situations."
WiredRed's e/pop 3.0 includes a comprehensive feature set that extends beyond traditional instant messaging. e/pop 3.0 consists of a suite of products including text-based chat conferencing, presence management, application sharing, advanced encryption for maximum security, voice over IP conferencing, and Citrix and Terminal Server support.
In addition, e/pop's strong administration capabilities, such as remote control, enable the system administrator to control, configure and manage the entire e/pop client infrastructure from any central location.
M. Hayes and Associates, one of the fastest growing disability and health care cost containment companies in the Mid-Atlantic region, has installed and used the Beta version of e/pop 3.0 since February 2001.
"After evaluating several instant messaging products, it became clear that WiredRed's e/pop 3.0 is the ideal choice for our real-time communications needs. It provides us with a means to communicate instantly between geographically disparate offices and efficiently administrate demanding disability cases," said Nick Reich, director of information technologies. "e/pop 3.0 also equips M. Hayes and Associates with a system to easily and quickly resolve technical support issues throughout our offices in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware."
IM and Real Time Communications Software Moves to the Enterprise
Although currently viewed as primarily a consumer application, industry-leading analyst firms are predicting that IM and real-time communications software for the enterprise will become as important to corporate communications as email is today. Gartner Group, for example, predicts that by 2003, employees at 90 percent of big companies will be using IM in the workplace. International Data Corporation (IDC) forecasts that the number of worldwide IM corporate users will increase at a compound annual growth rate of 140 percent - from 5.5 million in 2000 to more than 180 million in 2004.
While it is widely believed that IM will become a standard component of corporate IT networks, security and control issues inherent in today's consumer applications have hampered the adoption rate at the corporate level. The key issues facing corporate users include manageability, security and scalability. WiredRed directly addresses the concerns of corporate users by developing its e/pop solution to include true enterprise-level functionality.
e/pop was designed from the ground up to be the most secure and flexible real-time communications product on the market. e/pop offers superior security using RSA for authentication, digital certificates and signing, as well as RC4, DES, Triple-DES and AES for encryption. In addition, the e/pop console gives complete centralized control over group management, profiles and other details of the e/pop system from a remote location.
Designed to scale over LANs, WANs, internationally, over remote connections and the Internet, e/pop uniquely offers both peer-to-peer and client/server architectures. To address the needs of small businesses, e/pop employs a simple out of the box installation for peer networks. In large distributed networks, e/pop utilizes client/server, distributed server and peer-to-peer models using proprietary real-time routing technology. e/pop 3.0 enterprise server edition is specifically designed for organizations of 20,000 users or more.
e/pop 3.0 operates on all Windows 32-bit platforms, including Windows 95, 98, ME, NT and 2000 Workstation and Advanced Server. Specific support for Citrix and Terminal Server is also provided.

e/pop 3.0 will be commercially available on June 5, 2001.
