WiredRed™ Software Announces Real Time Communications Alert System
e/pop® ALERT provides enterprises with a secure method of informing end users of upcoming events via one-way instant notification
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Oct. 22, 2001 - WiredRed™ , a premier provider of instant messaging and real-time communications software for the enterprise, today announced the availability of e/pop® ALERT. The new one-way broadcast notification system enables companies, government agencies and schools to instantaneously notify their entire organization of impending emergencies, evacuation procedures, important meeting notices, network outages due to regular maintenance, and general memorandum requiring one-way communications.
According to WiredRed CEO and founder Allen Drennan, e/pop ALERT was created based on customer feedback received after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.
"There has been a dramatic change in the way companies conduct business since the national tragedy of September 11," said Drennan. "Not only are companies and government organizations turning to instant messaging and video conferencing solutions as inexpensive technology alternatives to travel, but many are also seeking ways to improve communications with their staff in order to protect their most valuable assets - the employees
themselves. We designed the features in e/pop ALERT based on feedback from our customers. It uniquely addresses the need for companies and organizations to send customized broadcast emergency notifications to any size group, or to the entire enterprise instantly."
About e/pop ALERT
e/pop ALERT is designed to provide secure, high-priority one-way instantaneous communications capabilities to schools, government and military agencies and corporations. It provides the ability to send customized emergency messages, including embedded WAV files, such as siren alarms, that play instantly when the alert pops up on the client PC. e/pop ALERT includes a rich set of security options in order to meet a wide variety of enterprise, policy-based centralized management requirements. Security options include RSA for authentication, digital certificates and signing, as well as RC4, DES, Triple-DES and AES for encryption. In addition, all e/pop products provide the ability to assign priority administration status to a group or groups of users in order to prevent spoofing. e/pop ALERT works within the existing network infrastructure and integrates with NetWare NDS, Windows NT Domain, LDAP and ADS directories to enable system administrators to utilize current network group hierarchy as the basis of the presence management system.
The Benjamin School, a highly selective independent school in North Palm Beach, Florida, that offers a college preparatory education to a diverse student body in grades K-12, has decided to adopt e/pop ALERT to provide its staff of 200 with instantaneous notification capabilities that take the place of a traditional P.A. system.
"With 20 buildings, 70 classrooms, 200 faculty and 1100 students, the Benjamin School campus is very dispersed. This posed a challenge as we searched for a system that would allow us to communicate with our students and staff in real-time, yet preserve our commitment to providing an environment that is both resource rich and conducive to learning. We decided to forgo a traditional P.A. system as it was not only intrusive, but
also extremely expensive to implement," explains John Peterson, director of technology at the Benjamin School. "e/pop ALERT provides us with a means to selectively notify teachers and staff of impending meetings, emergencies and other important notices instantaneously without intervening in the learning process. Most importantly, e/pop ALERT allows us to increase the level of security throughout the school by arming us with the ability instantly notify all staff of security-related incidents and concerns."
